Four Tornadoes Confirmed from the Derecho on Monday Night in the Chicago Area!

The National Weather Service in Romeoville, IL Has confirmed 4 tornado touchdowns in the greater Chicago metropolitan area on Monday night associated with a very strong straight line system known as a "Derecho". You can read the write up of the event at the NWS Romeoville, IL website.

No tornadoes ended up being confirmed by the Northern Indiana (IWX) Office, however, still numerous reports of damage came in from across their CWA.

The Derecho formed in extremely unstable air and raced from Eastern Iowa to Western Ohio on Monday afternoon and Evening. SevereStudios Chaser Ben Holcomb experienced 60-65 MPH winds south of South Bend, IN and also did a phoner with Jim Cantore of the Weather Channel moments before the line hit. The line of storms also prompted a Particularly Dangerous Situation (PDS) Severe Thunderstorm Watch which is very rare, especially for the Midwest.
