SevereStudios Chasers Hit By Tornado - Moorhead, IA

SevereStudios.com chasers Kenny Allen and Kory Hartman have been interviewed on a number of news outlets to discuss their experience from last night. They also have toured the devastation near Moorhead, IA and have visited the scout camp. The scene they described to me (SevereStudios Chaser Ben Holcomb) on the phone today was surreal. They are very lucky to still be alive, and many many many lessons have been learned.

Our emotions are tempered with the report of loss of life with this storm. All of us at SevereStudios.com send out our deepest sympathy and prayers to the scouting families who lost loved ones last night.

We would like to thank EVERYONE for their support over the past 2 days. June 11th was a long night for us, the team was up most of the overnight hours working to provide continuing coverage of the weather. Make sure you check back often to SevereStudios.com for the latest information on this and other breaking weather stories.

question - SAME radio???

Hi!
Last night on CNN the announcer said to get a SAME radio. Do you know what that is or where I may find one?? He said they sell for around $50.

S.A.M.E Weather Radios

SAME technology allows you to filter out non-local emergency alerts.

Most weather radio's on the market today have this technology. Where you can program your "local county" or it will alert you to all traffic from the weather repeater..

You can buy weather radios at your local department stores (Walmart, K-Mart exc) or online at Amazon. Just be sure it has the "S.A.M.E" Technology.

Hope this helps..

Hello I'm new here! That

Hello I'm new here! That video that Kenny shot was awsome but it reminded me that you should have a respect for mother nature and the rath of her. That was the same tornado that hit the boy scout camp and Kenny and Kory could have been the 5th and 6th victems. Storm chaseing is a VERY dangros job and it is not recomended to amatures with out any traning. There for that video made me learn. I use to want my town to be hit by a tornado but the video but the loss of life and damage they cause made me unsure about that. I to was up all night thinking about the same thing Kenny said. If that tornado had been stronger whaen they took the hit they could have been badly hurt or evean killed. If you have any thing to ask me or say please Email me at WX88TORNADO@gmail.com

Weather Radios

I got a SAME techonology NOAA Alert Radio at my local walmart for 25.99. They have them at most major stores like Walmart Target, Radio Shack, and online.

It probably the best purchase I have ever made to protect me and my family. Someone told me the computer voice is named "TOM" in my area so my kids named it Tom Tucker, from watching too much family guy. I know when our "Tom Tucker" goes beeping that I need to pay attention

Thankfully Safe!

For anyone wondering....NO, they didn't plan this. Hat's off to Kory and Kenny for having the camera rolling, but we are ALL thankful you are safe and alive. Ben shared your story and I've seen the video....I'm still speechless.

My Best,
Erv

NBC News

Ben I seen the video on NBC national news tonight. Glad that Kenny and Kory are ok. Keep up the good work.

Doug in KC

I agree

I second what Erv said. This was not planned. This was an unfortunate confluence of bad circumstances coming together at the wrong time. They had bad radar data due to the Omaha radar being struck by lightning (rendering them effectively blind), and the tornado was obscured by rain.

Kenny and Kory have been chasing tornadoes for 10 years and have a great deal of experience. This was just one of those things that no one could control.

:(

Well that's really a very terrific situation back there. :( I felt very sorry to the families of the victims. I failed to watch the story of Kenny and Kory... :( Maybe they're up in YouTube.. Thanks for sharing this...
