SPC MESOSCALE DISCUSSION

THE COMBINATION OF A VERY UNSTABLE AIRMASS AND STRONG VEERING/INCREASING WINDS WITH HEIGHT INDICATE A RISK OF STRONG TORNADOES OVER THE REGION THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING.

----------------------

The SPC has issued a moderate risk of severe weather for much of Eastern Nebraska and extreme SE SD. A slight risk boundary encompasses much of Kansas, South Dakota, Iowa, and Minnesota.

SevereStudios Chasers Kenny Allen and Jay Buchholz planned to target a line from Yankton to Sioux City yesterday. That plan was reaffirmed this morning by forecasts from the Sioux Falls NWS. Severe Studios chaser Kevin Haney will be in Northwest Iowa watching for the storms and streaming live video.

THUNDERSTORMS THAT DO DEVELOP THIS AFTERNOON WILL HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO BECOME QUICKLY SEVERE AND PRODUCE VERY LARGE HAIL AS WELL AS TORNADOES. SOME OF THE TORNADOES THAT DEVELOP COULD ALSO BECOME LARGE AND DAMAGING. THE HIGHEST PROBABILITY FOR A TORNADIC STORM WILL BE NEAR THE LAKE ANDES...TYNDALL...YANKTON AND SIOUX CITY AREAS.

SevereStudios Chaser Kory Hartman will also be out in southeastern South Dakota and Eastern Nebraska tonight.

SevereStudios Chaser Landon Rae and KELOLAND-TV Meterologist Scot Mundt will be out in "Dorothy" in southeastern South Dakota as well.
