Chaser BlogsSPC has upgraded to a Moderate Risk (MDT). ---------------- The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) says an area from central Texas, through eastern Oklahoma, southeast Kansas, and western Missouri has the best chances for severe weather on Tuesday.
Tornadoes are a threat due to strong shear, abundant moisture, and CAPE values exceeding 2500 J/Kg. A strong cold front will interact with those unstable conditions to produce supercell thunderstorms. Strong storms may also form along the dry line from central Oklahoma down to west-central Texas. Severe weather is expected to persist across the southern U.S. through Friday. SevereStudios will have many streamers in the field on Tuesday. Please check back for updates! Interesting graphic of where the SPC shows our count so far this year. I find it very telling that we have had a higher number of recent events that are striking in the southern states, wonder if it shows a trend vs. a temp shift in the patterns. (Image courtesy of The Storm Prediction Center) Below is a list of the tornadoes that occurred. National Weather Service survey teams are still determining the cause and extent of the damage at some locations. Therefore, this list is only preliminary. A slim chance exists for some severe weather this afternoon in southwest Nebraska and southwest Texas. Stuart Robinson is planning to stream from Nebraska. Check back later for updates! Meanwhile, Here's an Update from Picher, OK (ABC News). Apparently the town had some environmental issues before, and now the tornado will likely wipe them off the map. The number of deaths directly related to Tornadoes this year is hovering near 100 after the 20+ deaths reported during yesterdays outbreak. If/when we break 100 deaths, it will be the first time since 1998 that we've done so. Here's a breakdown of the past 10 years: It's very sad that we're close to that milestone and it's only May 11th. Almost 100 deaths that could have possibly been avoided had people been properly informed and been in a proper storm shelter. It's very unfortunate. This is not the kind of news we wish to bring.
