Waterspout over Lake Michigan on August 7, 2008
There is a Slight Risk of severe weather today for eastern New York and western New England. Also, for the lower Mississippi Valley into the Carolinas. The main threats will be for hail and damaging winds. Isolated tornadoes are possible, but the threat today is very minimal.

1986 - A rare outbreak of seven tornadoes occurred in New England. One tornado carved its way through Cranston RI and Providence RI causing twenty injuries. Rhode Island had not reported a tornado in twelve years, and three touched down in 24 hours. (Storm Data) (The National Weather Summary)

The Slight Risk Areas for today has been taken out by the (SPC) Storm Prediction Center. However, some areas can see isolated severe weather in the Mid Mississippi Valley, eastern Colorado and western Kansas,and lower Michigan and southern Lake Michigan through tonight.

1987 - Afternoon thunderstorms deluged Milwaukee, WI, with 6.84 inches of rain, including more than five inches in two hours, breaking all previous rainfall records for the city. Floodwaters were four feet deep at the Milwaukee County Stadium, and floodwaters filled the basement of the main terminal at the airport. Flooding caused 5.9 million dollars damage, and claimed the life of one person. Death Valley, CA, reported a morning low of 97 degrees. Strong Storms leave Wide Spread Damage in Illinios and Indiana; Ben Holcomb reports for the Weather Channel

A strong line of thunderstorms raced across the northern U.S. Monday evening leaving damage from Iowa to Indiana. Many damage reports are coming in from the Chicago area where as many as 200,000 residents are without power. SevereStudios Chaser Ben Holcomb was Live on The Weather Channel Monday night with Jim Cantore, reporting what he was seeing as the line came through. Law Enforcement reports there has been one fatality in La Porte county in Indiana from a tree limb that has fallen on a vehichle from high winds around 9:06 PM CDT.

Sunday, July 28th was an active day for only a Slight Risk of severe weather. Numerous wind damage reports and a few tornado reports came in from Iowa, Missouri, and Illinois.

There is a Slight Risk of severe weather this afternoon and tonight from the central and northern High Plains across the central Plains into the upper and middle Mississippi Valley. There is also a Slight Risk area over southeastern California and parts of Arizona. The severe threats are mainly for large hail and damging winds. The High Plains region has greatest threat for tornadic activity according the the Storm Prediction Center..

STRONGER STORMS WILL BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING LARGE HAIL, DAMAGING WIND GUSTS, AND ISOLATED TORNADOES. THIS ACTIVITY WILL SPREAD EASTWARD THROUGH THE EVENING HOURS.
