Baby's Cry Leads to Rescue (CBS News)

Violent storms on Thursday in a 25-mile-long swath of central New Hampshire destroyed several homes, damaged dozens of others and left at least one person dead, authorities said as police and firefighters went door-to-door searching for more possible victims.

The new system will automatically ring all 911 landline phones in the Glenpool 911 data base when a tornado warning has been issued specifically for Glenpool. Only 911 residents within the tornado warning polygon issued by the National Weather Service will be called. The system uses a mapping feature that only sends participants warnings when their exact location is threatened. Read more

A Tornado Warning has been issued for southwestern Lyon county in central Kansas until 4:45pm CDT. Trained weather spotters reported a tornado 18 miles southwest of Emporia.

A Tornado Warning has been issued for northern Greenwood county and eastern Chase county in central Kansas until 5:00pm CDT.

A Tornado Warning has been issued for southwestern Hancock county southern Kossuth county in central Iowa until 4:45pm CDT. Trained weather spotters reported a tornado near Algona.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for parts of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia until 10:00pm EDT.

Hail to 1.5 inches, wind gusts up to 70mph, and dangerous lightning are possible in and around these areas. Remember severe thunderstorms can and occasionally produce tornadoes.
