2012 Storm Chase Season
For all those that plan to chase in the state of Oklahoma for the 2012 season. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) has given a statement regarding storm chasers working in Oklahoma. "ANYONE THAT IS RUNNING WITH A SIREN ON THEIR VEHICLE AND ACTING LIKE (DRIVING LIKE) THEY ARE LAW ENFORCEMENT WILL BE ARRESTED AND PRESECUTED FOR IMPERSONATING AN OFFICER. WHILE THIS LAW HAS BEEN ON THE BOOKS FOR YEARS. WITH THE AMOUNT OF STORM CHASERS ON THE ROAD OHP IS FED UP WITH THOSE PEOPLE STORM CHASING AND ACTING LIKE THEY ARE LAW ENFORCEMENT OR FEELING LIKE THEY ARE ABOVE THE LAW INCLUDING EXCESSIVE SPEEDING THROUGH SMALL TOWNS AND EXTREME SPEEDS ON THE HIGHWAYS AND INTERSTATES. ANYONE USING A SIRENS IS ILLEAGALLY USING IT. NO ONE IN THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA IS LEGALLY ALLOWED TO USE A VEHICLE MOUNTED SIREN IF YOU ARE NOT LAW ENFORCEMENT AND THOSE THAT ACT IN THIS FASHION..WELL LET’S JUST SAY I HOPE THEY HAVE DEEP POCKETS FOR BAIL AND ATTORNEY'S FEES, BECAUSE THEY WILL NEED IT. WE ARE NOT SAYING NOT TO STORM CHASE, WE JUST ASK THAT YOU DO IT WITHIN THE LAWS OF OKLAHOMA. IF NOT WE WILL ENFORCE THE LAWS AND YOU WILL PAY THE PRICE". The bottom line is that law enforcement is fed up with the morons out there that think because they are storm chasers they can drive however they want running lights and sirens. According to this statement you better rethink that...Storm chasing has hit an all time high. I am proud to be apart of that. But just like any large group you will have that slect few that think they are above the law and will do whatever they want.
