ChaserCon 2008: Day Three Blog

9:00 PM CST
Back to Mitchell in 9 hours on the dot. Snow and wind was fun but we made it!

6:40 PM CST
Running into a lot of deer on our way winding back to I-90. On top of that we have snow falling again making it a fun trip home. Wait didn't we say that about the wind?

5:15 PM CST
Pictures from our trip home...

Car flipped over on the East bound lanes of I-76, icy roads and high winds the night before are likely to blame.

4:00 PM CST
Just left North Platte, NE. Heading north back through Nebraska to South Dakota. Strong winds have prevailed through out our journey thus far. We are driving straight into the winds now. Numerous snow squalls are crossing the western NE and SD. We are expecting to drive through many of them. Landon is taking photos, using some of the cool techniques we learned in Mike Umscheid's presentation this morning at ChaserCon.

We would have the Live ChaseCam up and running, but we left our video camera in Denver. It has being FedEx'ed back to South Dakota tomorrow! How frustrating. We have started uploading our position to SpotterNetwork.org for anyone that is interested.

1:14 PM CST
Back on the road to South Dakota. Strong north wind is blowing us off the road. It is going to be a FUN ride home today!

10:00 AM MST
Morning sessions are ongoing. First thing today, we heard from Mike Umscheid again, this time as a chaser, and his digital storm photography techniques.

Jon Davies is speaking about non-supercell tornadoes (landspouts, gustnadoes) and how to possibly forecast the conditions needed to produce them.
