Slight Risk - 10/7/08

There is a Slight Risk for severe thunderstorms for portions of the Lower Mississippi Valley this afternoon and evening. The primary severe weather threats appear to be damaging strait line winds and large hail. However, isolated tornado development can not be ruled out with some degree of low level shear present.

Tornado Warning for Calhoun, Pontotoc, and Layfayette counties in MS. until 8:00 PM CDT.

5:57 PM CDT
Tornado Warning for Grenada County in MS. Doppler Radar indicated a possible tornado near Gore Springs.

4:56 PM CDT
New Tornado Warning has been issued for Marshall county in MS.

3:56 PM CDT
A Tornado Warning has been issued for Tate, Benton, and Marshall Counties in Mississippi until 4:30 PM. Radar indicated a tornado near Barr.

***UPDATE***

The 1630z outlook has dropped the categorical slight risk for the Lower Mississippi Valley. However, there is still a risk of some severe storms with instances of large hail and isolated damaging winds. A brief spin-up is also possible as storms cross the warm frontal boundary later this afternoon.

Mesoscale Discussion #2315 has been issued concerning severe thunderstorm potential for Eastern Arkansas, Northwest Mississippi, West Tennessee, and the Missouri Bootheel. A categorical slight risk will be added at the 2000z update for a portion of this area. Watch possible.
