High Risk 5-11

Tornado outbreak possible today (Monday)...
On Monday May 10th, parts of Oklahoma and Kansas could see a major tornado outbreak. The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) is predicting a "historic strong tornado case". People in these areas need to prepare for this potential tornado outbreak.
***SUPERCELLS WITH LONG-TRACK STRONG TORNADOES AND VERY LARGE HAIL EXPECTED MONDAY LATE AFTERNOON AND EVENING ACROSS PARTS OF CENTRAL AND NORTH OK, SE KS, AND SW MO*** (SPC)

Not so lucky..
I dont' think that the server crashed like last time, which is great. Unfortunately, I still didn't have much luck on the site Monday. I found that most of the vid streams locked up and had to be refreshed regularly, and this happened with the website too. When I refreshed the main website, I couldn't get back in, despite repeated attempts to do so. Eventually I had to give up. :-(
Le'ts hope the server holds up!
Right smack in the thick of things, the site was bogged down last outbreak. I've got my popcorn ready, and I don't want to miss any of the action! :) lol..
5/10/10 Outlook
I am northeast of Wichita, KS so I will be watching the SPC & Severestudios all day. TWC has a "Tor-Con" index of 8 for our area. This is the same index that they gave before the massive tornado outbreak that went through the Yazoo area a little while back. God bless you chasers and all you do to keep us weather-nerd homebodies & their families safe! Be careful out there!
Better Safe Than Sorry..
Yes Mr/Mrs Guest. Sometimes the weather does not behave as it is expected to do. All it takes is one factor to be missing, and there is less or no severe weather.
However, in every situation this year where the Storm Prediction Center labelled a situation as high or moderate risk, there has indeed been severe storms, and some areas experienced dangerous weather and even killer tornadoes.
The key to protecting lives is getting the information out to everyone, and getting it out well-ahead of the event. It is better to play it safe and then hope that the storms do not materialize (or are weaker than expected). Once the storms form and severe weather is on the way, it is too late to start informing people, because a lot of supercells that spawn tornadoes, dangerous lightning, large hail, and flooding rains can have a groundspeed from 30mph to more than 60mph (that's not the windspeed)
So, there's no point in denying that this is a dangerous situation, and likely some areas in those areas will experience damaging and dangerous weather. This means that the SPC has to make the decision a day or two ahead and decide whether or not to alert people about a particularly dangerous set of possibilities.
Stay safe today! :-)
just read about the high risk
that some pretty heavy statement to make....it does not sound well for the state of oklahoma and points east.....well looks like a long monday of sitting in front of the comp. w/ severe studios and several chasecams on at once.....see ya'll in 12 hrs!!!
Yes they did predict a
Yes they did predict a similar scenario either last year or the year before where I live. I live in Wichita,Kansas so I'm right in the danger zone. I'm hoping for some good stuff tomorrow.
Last time I heard
Last time I heard predictions similar to this was when I first moved to Stark City, MO. We were not even "in" the high circled zone, rather just on the edge. The Picher tornado ripped through Granby and Newtonia.
RE: Historic Tornado Outbreak
I think what they are saying is that historically, this situation is setting up to produces tornadoes. Not that it is going to be a historic outbreak.
Same as last year?
Don't get me wrong, I'm excited to get out and spot, but didn't they predict something like this last year and nothing happened? The weather people were saying that there was a chance for a record tornado outbreak and all we saw was rain.
Outlook
The Spc has moved the entire Mod risk further south into much of Oklahoma on their latest update.
