The house is quiet now and I am just realizing how incredibly lucky I am. A previously tornado warned storm was approaching my town from the NW this evening. I decided through guidance from SS members to go ahead and seek safer shelter for my children and I. I have 4 kids, 3 of whom are special needs. We went long before the storm was due to arrive.
I was in contact via phone with an SS member who let me know prior to the storm becoming tornado warned again that it was getting much worse for my area. There was a lot of confusion among my neighbors and I in that little shelter. Mixed reports from a rope tornado, to a wedge, to 'all clear', to prayers. I looked outside and saw very clear rotation directly overhead. I could hear the sound of a train, mixed with childrens screams and cries, NOAA radio beeps, cell phones, pelting rain, and howling wind. Basically, I guess what is needed to be said is I was beyond scared.
But I owe a huge thank you to Severe Studios. I had so much warning ahead of time that I was able to get to safe shelter before it was even tornado warned! My kids and I (and even my dogs!) were in a safe place before there was any immediate danger. It was truly terrifying when the storm was over us, but I had constant assurance through SS. What an absolutely wonderful crowd there is here.

Great job
Great job in taking precaution neok. It was good to see that you got advanced warning.
Stay Safe
Good Job NEOK!
Way to go NEOK. You did everything right and you and your family were safe. Once again more proof how valuable this site is. It's knowledgeable staff who look out for everyone and get the word out as soon as severe weather begins saves lives.
On a side note I want to say thanks to all the chasers out there risking themselves to inform the public. Thank God none of you were hurt or worse. My condolences to the families who lost loved ones in Kirksville. I am sure without all the chasers, spotters, local media, and NWS, the toll would have been much higher.
PLEASE encourage everyone you know to buy a weather radio with ALERT features and always be prepared to take action when severe weather threatens. Mother Nature can and will cause tragedy. Yesterday we all saw Kirksville in the cross hairs. It could of been any one of our towns, cities, counties we or our loved ones live.
Stay safe everyone!
