About
I would have to say my interest in the weather started when I was growing up in Southern Florida. The hurricanes always seemed to amaze me with the amount of destruction that can be caused by wind. I really got involved with the weather aspect after hurricane Andrew, at that time I was a volunteer fire fighter with BCFR in Central Florida. We were sent to Miami as part of a strike team to assist with the rescue efforts. Once in South Florida I couldn’t believe the amount of devastation to such a large area. I knew at that point I wanted to know more about weather and the different type of weather events that affected the U.S. on a regular basis.
In 1999 I attended my first SKYWARN Spotter training class. At that time I joined SKYWARN of NW Florida and within 12 months I was their new Assistant Director. I kept busy with the afternoon pop up thunderstorms in the Florida Panhandle chasing severe thunderstorms on a weekly basis. It wasn’t until 2002 that I chased my first tornado and I must say, that was a trail by fire experience. In 2003 we moved to Arkansas where we still live today. I have chased several tornados since moving here and have seen some truly devastating out come from tornados. The 2 worst tornados that I have filmed the aftermath of are the 2006 Marmaduke tornado which struck April 2, 2006 and reached F-3 status and the Highland tornado which struck February 5, 2008 and reached EF-4 status killing 14 people and having a long track of 122 miles. Other than tornados I have chased and filmed winter storms, hurricanes and severe thunderstorms. It is my goal that one day we will be able to get the word out in enough time for everyone to be able to take cover and be safe even after the worst of storms.
I am currently a Weather Watcher for KAIT8 out of Jonesboro Arkansas and a Trained SKYWARN spotter. I work closely with KAIT8, LCSO and WRFD during severe weather events. I am married and have 5, yes 5 kids the oldest currently serving his first TOD with the U.S. Army in Iraq.
I joined SevereStudios in December of 2008 with the hopes of being able to let people see just what mother nature is capable of doing and being able to get video to the NWS so they can get the warnings out that need to be. I am a strong believer that every house in the U.S. should have a NOAA Weather Radio, it is true what they say. Weather Radios DO SAVE LIVES!
