About

Born and raised in South Dakota, Kenny Allen's experience with severe weather started when he was a child, becoming thrilled and curious when severe weather would strike. Allen began reporting on severe weather in 1997 as a radio announcer in his hometown of Madison, South Dakota.

May 30th, 1998 was also an important date in Kenny Allen's life. That night was his first night on the air at a radio station in Sioux Falls, SD. It was also the same night that a significant severe weather outbreak occurred in South Dakota. Allen helped warn residents of southeast South Dakota of the severe weather dangers. He also had to break the news that the town of Spencer, SD had been destroyed by a very large tornado and six people died. From then on, Allen's desire was to help get warnings out faster and provide better reports to the NWS as a spotter from the field.

Kenny Allen has intercepted numerous severe weather events througout the United States. Most recently he was involved in reporting on the Little Sioux/Moorehead, IA and the Willmar, MN tornadic events in 2008.

Kenny Allen has attended numerous weather training sessions, weather conferences and has taken many science classes related to environmental sciences. He continues to provide severe weather reports, photos, and videos to the NWS and various media outlets including KSFY-TV, WOWT-TV, The Weather Channel, and other local, regional, and national television stations, radio stations and newspapers. He is committed to improving the communication among government, media, and the general public during severe weather.

Kenny Allen is Co-Owner and Chief Financial Officer of SevereStudios Inc., a company dedicated to covering all aspects of severe weather.
