Tornado Death Toll Rises in Kentucky

Stormy Sky

Deadly tornadoes tore through Kentucky and several other states over the weekend.

On Monday, Gov. Beshear of Kentucky confirmed 64 fatalities in his state with deaths reported in 8 separate counties. The ages of the deceased range from 5 months to 86 years. The governor also said that 105 people remained unaccounted for.

The majority of deaths reported were in Graves County, KY, where Mayfield is located. A candle factory was destroyed in that city. Eight deaths are confirmed in the factory while 8 people still remained unaccounted for.

The number of deaths is expected to climb as rescue efforts have shifted to recovery.

Mayfield, and many towns and cities across western Kentucky, remain without electricity and natural gas as the clean-up process begins.
